About Kavkaz

Kavkaz is a guide to the Caucasus — the mountains, peoples, food and culture of the lands between the Black and Caspian seas. We cover the three South Caucasus countries (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) and the North Caucasus, and we try to do it with more depth and honesty than the usual whistle-stop travel post.

The region is often flattened into a single blur of "the Caucasus." It isn't one place. It's dozens of peoples, a few dozen languages, ancient churches and mountain mosques, and food worth crossing a border for. Our aim is to do justice to that — one well-researched, first-hand article at a time.

Who writes this

Kavkaz is written by a small editorial team, each covering the part of the region they know best:

Articles are signed by the editor who wrote them. We update guides as things change on the ground — borders, transport and prices in this region move faster than most.

How we make money
